Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity

The Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity is one of the tallest and most beautiful Orthodox Churches in the Balkans. The church was completed between 1863 – 1873 and it is located in a prominent location on the eastern hillside overlooking the historic city centre. Visible from throughout the city, it quickly became one of the architectural monuments for which Mostar was known. The money for the construction was collected by Mostar’s Orthodox community with a contribution sent by the then sultan as well as Tsarist Russia. Notably, community members who could not afford to contribute funds toward the church’s construction, would often provide labour.
