Herzegovina-Neretva Canton covers approximately 4.500 square kilometers from the mountains Makljen and Ivan Sedlo at the north to Neum and Adriatic Sea at the south.The Canton is organized in 9 municipalities and it¢s populated with 270.000 inhabitants.

The City of Mostar is situated in the central part of the Canton and it is a political, economic, financial and cultural centre.

   
The unique beauty of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton lies in the fact that the Canton is at the same time mountain, plain, coastal and continental region.

Such varieties are linked by the unique beauty of the territory shaped by the picturesque slopes and hills, the plane area along the river Neretva with its tributaries (Rama, Trebižet, Krupa, Bregava), coastal band and bluish sea.

The richness of the landscape, vegetation, relief and geological shapes, various flora and fauna and a unique historical/cultural monuments – are all located within the relatively small space.

In addition, one should mention two spectacular parks of nature – Hutovo Blato and Blidinje, which are both truly worth of visit.

There are three prominent tourist destinations in the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton: Neum – for its coastal tourism, Mostar – for its continental and resort tourism and Medjugorje – for its religious tourism. All three destinations exquisitely supplementing each other, bearing in mind the richness of each destination separately.

Nowdays, the Canton offers the tourist market approximately 16.000 beds in various forms and categories of accommodation (hotels, motels, small pensions, private houses and other) with an increasing tendency of tourist capacities and a significant annual growth of the tourist turnover.
